How to Allow Comments on Your Blog

Below I've written instructions for allowing comments on your blog. Note that these steps will only work on blogspot. If you have chosen a different blog tool, your procedure will be different. I've created some highlighted images to help you identify certain links that I describe in the instructions. You can click on the pictures to enlarge them as needed.

Figure 1. Refer to this Diagram for Steps 1 & 2

1. Type your blog address into the navigation bar at the top of your web browser. (For example, I would type: http://spencech.blogspot.com ). You should arrive at your blog.

2. Look in the upper right corner of the screen. Do you see your email address?

  • If you do not see your email address, proceed to Step 3.
  • If you do see your email address, you will notice one of two words next to your name:
    • If you see "Dashboard", click on it and proceed to Step 5.
    • If you see "Customize", click on it, then click on the Settings Tab on the left side of the screen (see Figure 2), and proceed to Step 6.

3. If you do not see your email address in the upper right corner of the screen, click "Sign In".

4. Enter the user name and password that you used to set up your account. Click "Sign In". You should arrive at your dashboard.

5. Under the section entitled "Manage Your Blogs", click on the "Settings" link.

Figure 2. Refer to this diagram for Steps 6 & 7

6. You should see a series of links at the top of the screen. Click on "Comments".

7. After the "Who can comment?" heading, select "Users with Google Accounts"

8. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save Settings"

That should do it!
